Card shower

A card shower is planned for Ronnie and Karen Hoffman, who will celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. Cards may be sent to 16682 Old Valley Pike, Edinburg, Virginia 22824.

Seven Bends Walkers Club

The Seven Bends Walkers Club meets at 7:50 a.m. each Friday in September at the Lupton picnic shelter at 1191 Lupton Road, Woodstock. Registration not required. The group’s goal this season is to hike from Lupton to Hollingsworth roads.

Bingo

Strasburg Christian Church will host bingo starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at 165 High St. Food will be sold starting at 4:30 p.m. Tithe and donations will benefit Family Promise of Shenandoah County.

Reunion

The Haller, Hollar and Holler families will hold a reunion at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Union Forge Church, 131 Union Forge Church Road, Edinburg. Information: 540-335-2598.

New Market Library

The New Market Area Library will host two story-time programs each month for preschoolers on the following schedule:

• Books and Babies (ages 0-3): 10 a.m., starts Wednesday and held on the first Wednesday of each month.

• Preschool Story Times (ages 3-5): 10 a.m., starts Sept. 15 and held on the third Friday of each month.

Bowers reunion

The Bowers family will meet for a reunion at noon on Sept. 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Edinburg. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Plates, cups, eating utensils and drinks will be provided.

Tree Stewards

The Front Royal/Warren County Tree Stewards will hold its annual All About Trees course starting on Sept. 9 at various locations.

Those attending will learn about tree identification, planting, pruning, care for trees including insect pests and diseases, how to deal with invasive plants and finding the right tree for your yard.

There will be a mix of online and in-person classes usually from 9 a.m. to noon. Reading and video assignments are at your convenience. The course fee is $30. Tuition assistance is available. Payment should be sent to Front Royal/Warren County Tree Stewards, P.O. Box 2001, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

Mini golf fundraiser

The Edinburg Lions Club will sponsor a mini golf fundraiser from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Putter’s Sweets & Eatz on Jillian Court and Route 11, Edinburg.

Registration is $5 for ages 17 and under and $10 for adults. Prizes awarded for first and second place in adult and youth categories.

There will be ice cream, food, beverages and Lions corn brooms for sale. Used glasses may be donated. Proceeds benefit the Lions Club Scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from Edinburg. Donations accepted. Information: Cathy Ettinger at 571-490-1363 or email [email protected].

Suicide Prevention Month

Several activities are planned in observance of Suicide Prevention Month. They are:

• Stephens City Out of the Darkness Walk candlelight vigil: 7:15 p.m. Sept. 10 at Abundant Life Church, 700 Aylor Road, Stephens City.
